The I Love Reading Collection is Greenfield's "newest" leveled reading series (though still published over a decade ago 😅) that adopts the Whole Language method.
It has the following features:
- There are about 10 new Chinese characters introduced in each story. Stories are short and simple to understand, especially with corresponding illustrations, so reading feels relatively low pressure and light-weight
- There's a recurring cast of animal protagonists within a "group of 3" books. Young readers are often delighted by this seemingly simple thing, but that sense of familiarity helps makes the books more engaging and fun (there's a reason why the middle levels of the I Can Read series are so popular thanks to 圓圓 and 方方!)
- Detailed illustrations, simple but funny plots, and repeated sentence patterns help readers build their Chinese literacy in a fun and meaningful way
The full collection is made up of 3 sets. Each set includes 12 little books, CDs (Cantonese and Mandarin), flash cards, and work books.
After finishing the full series of 36 stories (3 sets of 12 booklets each), your child will know 300 single characters & 416 words.
This is the traditional Chinese version.
