You vote matters! Or... does it?

The mice kingdom holds an election every five years to vote for a leader. Yet every time, the fat black cat wins.

The fat black cat uses its power to pass laws that often disadvantage mice. For example, mice holes must be built large enough to allow the paw of a cat to fit through, or mice must adhere to a speed limit when running, so a cat can always catch it.

Life is getting harder and harder for mice... so this election, the mice are determined to elect a new leader β€” the white cat! But will their lives get better...?

The inspiration for this story comes from the thoughts and questioning of the democratic system raised by the well-known Canadian politician in the early twentieth century, Tommy Douglas.

Although citizens of a democratic country have the power to elect and remove those in power, do newly elected leaders actually respond to the public needs and make the country better? Or do they continue to ignore the voices of its citizens and repeat the same actions as their predecessors? Is this why despite the presence of different parties, they are all very similar after all?

This is a thought-provoking picture book that encourages both adults and children to discuss issues related to civic education such as democracy, voting, freedom, politics, and law.
