The Silk Road is not only trade road between China and the West, but it was also an important channel for political and cultural exchanges.
Through the tales of different encounters along the journey of three musicians who traveled far thousands of miles to Chang’An (capitol of the Tang Dynasty), we learn about the collaborations and knowledge-sharing between the ancient Chinese and the West.
During the Tang Dynasty, three musicians joined a merchant caravan on their long journey to Chang’An from the West.
Their musical performances not only captured the hearts of many people in Chang’An, they also won the favour of a general, who commissioned to have the scenes of their performances be made into figurines made of our three different colours of clay.
After the general’s death, these figurines were buried with him. The figurines were discovered a thousand years later, and are now known as the Tri-coloured Musicians on Camels.
The National Treasures series is a set of books covering interesting historical events in Chinese history in kid-friendly picture book format. It highlights stories around the inventions, the culture, and the economy that is relatable in modern-day setting.
