The Sun-Mirror, called the Yang Sui (陽燧) was used by ancient Chinese to make fire by using the sun. This tool appeared to be in use about a thousand of years earlier than their peers in the West. Its appearance marked a great step forward in technology and innovation in humankind.
More than 2000 years ago, during the Western Zhou dynasty (西周), there was a village at the foothills of Qishan Mountain. It was known for producing exquisite and beautiful bronzeware.
One summer, random fires starting popping in the village spontaneously. Were there monsters setting fire to their homes?
To scare away monsters, the villagers invited an elder to perform a ritual. In the process, the villagers realized the light reflected off the bronze plate was what ignited the flame in the altar.
Using this principle, the villagers than created the Yang Sui, to create fire on demand.
