Well-known illustrator, Kathy Liu, uses a muted colour palette, paired with simple prose, to document her childhood experiences growing up in the farms of Hong Kong.
Hi, I'm Kathy (小英)! My grandfather inherited farm land in Sheung Shui (上水), so my dad naturally became a veggie farmer. I am therefore considered a 'country girl'.
At the time, during the post-war period, Hong Kong people were very poor, but I mostly wasn't burdened by that. Instead I was a mischievous little girl who loved exploring and wasn't afraid of anything.
With my art, I hope document the silly things of my childhood, so that we can all take a fun nostalgic trip down Hong Kong of the past!
Note: Unlike other children's books that uses standard written Chinese text, this book is written in "colloquial/spoken Cantonese".
