Home is where the heart is.
8-year-old Ming (明仔) lives in a crowded sub-divided flat (劏房) in Hong Kong. Although the unit is small, it's what Ming calls home.
One day, a fire destroyed their home. They cannot afford to live in the urban areas with the city's skyrocketing rents, so Ming's family moved into a "tin house" (鐵皮屋) in rural outskirts of Hong Kong's New Territories.
Despite adversity, Ming's family not only adapted to the rural lifestyle, but integrated well with the locals villagers, and fell in love with farming and the nature surrounding it.
Just as they were settling well into their new home, they are forced to move again! When will they find their forever home in Hong Kong?
Author and illustrator Janas Lau, uses the delicate watercolour illustrations and simple prose to tell the story of an eight-year-old boy Ming, who endures multiple forced evictions in Hong Kong.
Through this story, young readers are introduced to the growing wealth divide, the housing affordability issues, and the messy land development policies in Hong Kong, many of which are not often discussed about this populated city.
