We spent all of this week reading books by Tatsuya Miyanishi at our daily story time! But who is he??
Tatsuya Miyanishi is a popular award-winning Japanese children's book author and illustrator. His iconic use of bold strokes and colours is instantly recognizable, and has garnered somewhat of a passionate following among children and adults.
We love his books here at Little Kozzi. They range from being silly and quirky, to being surprisingly deep and thought-provoking.
Miyanishi's storytelling style, especially the Tyrannosaurus books, deviates from "classic" western children's lit plot lines that often feature clear-cut happy endings and closure. But this difference might be the exactly why it has been so popular among young readers who crave a good story that is a little different and unexpected.
